A magnificent trek to the Gokyo Lakes and impressive views of Everest from Gokyo Ri
The Gokyo Lakes region at the head of the Dudh Kosi Valley provides an attractive alternative to the popular EBC trek. It is a more tranquil trek through the Sherpa heartland that affords ample time for acclimatization with opportunities to savour the mountain panoramas. The ascent of Gokyo Ri will give you superb views of Everest as well as the 8000m peaks of Lhotse, Makalu and ChoOyu.
Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Kathmandu (1,330m)
Day 2 In Kathmandu, sightseeing Kathmandu Valley
Day 3/4 Fly to Lukla (2,840m); commence trek through Sherpa villages to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)
Day 5 Acclimatisation day; explore the Sherpa villages around Namche Bazaar
Day 6/9 Ascend the Gokyo Valley to the famous lakes and climb GokyoRi (5,360m) for stupendous mountain views
Day 10 Descend by alternative trail to Tengboche Monastery (3,860m) for superb views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse and AmaDablam
Day 11/12 Descend to Namche and walk to the mountain airstrip at Lukla
Day 13 Fly Lukla to Kathmandu
Day 14/15 At leisure in Kathmandu
